Volunteering 2025

FIECON’s team came together in early 2025 to support impactful initiatives, including crafting comforting soft toys for children of service families and transforming a local school’s library and garden to promote learning and environmental awareness.

In the first quarter of 2025, FIECON’s volunteering efforts supported the Naval Children’s Charity and a local school in Islington. Our team worked on a variety of impactful projects aimed at supporting children and promoting education, sustainability, and community well-being.

For the Naval Children’s Charity, which supports children of service families, our team crafted 20 embroidered penguins, 10 felt rabbits, and two crocheted bunnies to accompany the charity’s specially commissioned books, Zoe and the Time Rabbit and Henry and the Time Penguin. These books help children cope with the emotional challenges of parental deployment, providing them a tangible way to express complex feelings. The soft toys, featuring clock faces symbolizing happy and sad times, offered additional comfort to these young readers. Special thanks to Alisha and Anouk for leading this heartwarming initiative.

At a local school in Islington, FIECON volunteers tackled two key projects aimed at fostering a love for learning and environmental awareness. We revitalized the school’s library by organizing donated books into engaging categories such as Space, How To, The World, and Families, making it easier for children to explore new topics. The library now includes a special tree shelf where students can share their favorite books, promoting a sense of community. Jenika and Siba led this library transformation, creating a welcoming space for young readers.

Additionally, our team worked on improving the school’s garden to provide an outdoor learning environment. Volunteers installed a new water butt, repositioned a solar fountain, and prepared soil beds for planting fruit and vegetables. A wildflower area and bug hotel were also created to support local biodiversity. These improvements will teach students about sustainability and the importance of caring for the environment. Maria, the school manager, was thrilled with the results, which will serve as a hands-on learning tool for years to come.
