In 2023, the FIECON volunteering event was organised in partnership with the RSPB and held in Holland Park, helping to preserve andenhance the natural environment.
Protecting biodiversity is not limited to the nature reserves managed by the RSPB; it encompasses all green spaces. Greenspaces, including Holland Park, work together as a network for nature, providing vitalhabitats and resources for wildflowers, plants, and a variety of species, including birds, butterflies, and bees.
Our volunteering efforts did not exclusively benefit residents in London. By enhancing biodiversity in Holland Park greenspace, we create ripple effects that benefit the entire ecosystem across the planet.
Our volunteering efforts go beyond just physical labour. Our commitment to the environment is underscored by the donation FIECON made to the RSPB too. Donations support a diverse range of conservation initiatives, from species recovery to large-scale conservation projects and shapinggovernment policies. The RSPB conducts rigorous scientific research to find practical solutions to pressing conservation challenges.
Native species are better adapted to local conditions and support a more balanced and resilient ecosystem, our volunteering efforts were not just about the removal of invasive species like brambles, ivy, and holly allowing native flora and fauna to thrive. It was about being part of a nationwide and global movement to protect biodiversity, combat climate change, and promote sustainability.
Our hard work has a far-reaching impact on a healthier and more resilient planet, and we all had fun too!
